altKimberly Henry McKay’s smile left an impression on nearly everyone she knew, from patients and co-workers to friends and family.

McKay’s colleagues at Kansas City Cancer Center said when they think about McKay, they remember her smile most. McKay, 56, Independence, Mo., died Dec. 3 after a three-car accident on Interstate 470.

alt altThis year, nurses in North Kansas City Hospital’s Chest Pain Center gave a gift that will help some of Kansas City’s most disadvantaged year-round.

The unit organized a linen drive for City Union Mission. The mission will use the collected towels and sheets at its family shelter and men’s shelter.

altNew guidelines for breast cancer screenings have area nurses concerned.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issued new guidelines on Nov. 16 that recommend women begin mammogram screenings at age 50, not 40 as previously recommended. The new guidelines also suggest that women receive a mammogram every other year instead of every year.

The three women joined a practice at St. Luke’s on the Plaza after they graduated from the midwife program at the University of Kansas School of Nursing in May.
