altDespite healthy options in local hospital cafeterias, nurses still find that time is against them when they try to eat healthy at work.

Most on-floor nurses get 30-minute lunch breaks, which Olathe Medical Center nurse Michel Hobby, RN, BSN, said if you bring your lunch is enough time, but trips to the cafeteria are difficult.

Camp Discovery, at Rocks Springs Ranch south of Junction City, Kan., provides a safe camp environment for children who have diabetes.

 

KU nurse residency program gains accreditation

altThe University of Kansas Hospital’s nurse residency program recently received accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

KU is one of two educational hospitals to go through the nurse residency accreditation process. The University of Colorado’s medical center also received the accreditation.

altNurses who volunteer with Special Olympians find they can teach athletes healthy habits while enjoying the athletes’ sense of fun.

“They’re just such a special group of people,” said Susan Krumm, LPN. “They’re so appreciative. They have a very loving way about them.”
