Kansans face increasing health problems as some residents continue to light up in public and expand their waistlines.

Jason Eberhart-Phillips, MD, MPH, state health officer and director of the Kansas Division of Health, gave that prognosis to nurses and nursing students at the Kansas State Nurses Association’s 34th Annual Day at the Legislature.

altJonathan Trotter, JD, RN, CEN, said he did not see nursing on his radar when he started at Oakbrook College of Law in Fresno, Calif.

Trotter, a Kansas City native, said when he enrolled in Oakbrook’s distance learning juris doctorate program he planned to go into trial law.

altThe Kansas Nurses Foundation launched a new program this month which aims to honor nurses and raise money to advance nursing.

KNF board members unveiled their new Honor a Kansas Nurse initiative Feb. 11 at the Kansas State Nurses Association 34th Annual Day at the Legislature in Topeka, Kan. The program recognizes Kansas nurses while raising funds for scholarships, loans and research grants.

Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson listed a proposed clean indoor air act as one of the most pressing pieces of legislation this session.

Parkinson spoke to nurses and nursing students during the Kansas State Nurses Association’s 34th Annual Day at the Legislature in Topeka.
