Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., will offer a six-week Bereavement Support Group in partnership with Catholic Community Hospice. The course aims to meet an identified community need for a more effective way to promote healing through education and support after the loss of a loved one or close friend. The group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday July 14 through Aug. 18 in the Keenan Education Center, Auditorium B. Brent Doster, Catholic Community Hospice bereavement coordinator, will facilitate the group. “Our mission calls us to care for the whole person,” said Sister Jennifer Gordon, SCL, Providence Medical Center Mission integration associate. “That includes responding to the spiritual needs of the patient’s family and reaching out to them with support.” During the six-week program, Doster will reinforce that grief is a reality that must be worked through, rather than something that will simply pass on its own. Topics include accepting the reality of loss, processing the pain of grief, adjusting to a world without the deceased, and finding an enduring connection with the deceased while embarking on a new life. To participate in the Bereavement Support Group or for more information, call (913) 433-2058.
