Menorah Medical Center’s cardiology team will offer free heart-health screenings with on-the-spot results and counseling at the annual Menorah Medical Center Women’s Heart Health Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 2 at Menorah Medical Center’s Entrance B, 5721 W. 119th St. The health fair is free and open to the public. “The time to address heart disease is now. When it comes to heart disease, prevention and education can save lives. This is vitally important, as we are all at risk for this disease, especially women,” cardiologist Elizabeth Dang said. Free health screenings include complete cholesterol and triglyceride, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, body mass index, bone density testing, waist circumference and review of family health history. Menorah will provide results on-site and include an overall risk assessment and counseling with a licensed professional. Cooking demonstrations, educational booths and a heart-healthy seminar are scheduled for the event. “We must convince women to take the initiative to look after their own health,” said Kathy Shiloh, director of Cardiology Services at Menorah. “Screening for potential heart problems is a critical first step. Unfortunately, many women who juggle multiple duties neglect their personal well-being and may be toying dangerously with their own health. Care giving is great, but looking after one’s health is just as important.” The first 150 people will receive red boas.
